    How I Work

I use a client-centered, culturally grounded approach that integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative, and systemic perspectives. You’ll find evidence-based tools, honest reflection, and real space for all parts of your story.

  • II was called to this work through lived experience. As a high-functioning Black woman myself, I know what it’s like to carry the world while still being asked to smile. I specialize in helping clients untangle the impact of unresolved trauma, race-based stress, and family dynamics.

What It Feels Like to Work With Mary Jo

If you’re wondering what it’s like to sit across from me…

Imagine a space where you don’t have to explain your tone, your family, or your exhaustion. A space where your wholeness is assumed, not earned. I hold a sacred, Black-centered space for healing, especially for high-achieving Black women and those navigating complex trauma, identity, or generational wounds.

Therapy with Mary Jo feels like:
🌳 Rooted: We start with culture, family, and the systems that shaped you.
💬 Affirming: No performance, no code switching, just truth.
🪞 Reflective: We connect the dots between past pain and present patterns.
💡 Empowering: You’ll leave with insight, tools, and clarity.

Let’s Connect

If you’re looking for a therapist who affirms your culture, honors your lived experience, and walks with you, not ahead of you, let’s start the conversation.

Words I Hold Close:

"Trust is the cornerstone of effective counseling. Without it, therapy feels stagnant. With it, transformation begins.."

Why this quote?

I don’t just listen, I seek to understand your whole story. When trust is present, therapy moves beyond surviving day to day. Together, we’ll build the confidence and clarity you need to reclaim your sense of agency and create real change.
